A speed boat is a very popular vehicle to hire if there are several of you going to Koh Larn. For between 1500 and 5000 baht you can hire a speedboat for part of or the whole day to take you all around the islands, or just to Koh Larn. It will either wait for you there, or to pick you up later. The trip only takes 15-20 minutes and you can be dropped on the far side of the island from Pattaya, which is much quieter and will save you having to take taxis to get there.
To hire a speedboat and skilled local pilot, just go down to the beach and either ask one of the speedboat drivers, or look for the charter companies. You will be able to charter a speedboat and driver at any tour operator in Pattaya as well as at specialist shops. You will save money if you go to the beach and bargain with the operator.
Getting around Koh Larn is equally easy with songthaew minibus taxis (the same as in Pattaya) taking you to your chosen beach, or motorbike taxis if you are in a hurry to catch the last ferry back to Pattaya.
Located in the west of Koh Lan is Haad Tian. This scenic beach in the cove stretches 500 metres long and features some coral reefs. It is as popular as Haad Ta Waen with loads of sport activities and restaurants on the offer. Another beach near Haad Ta Waen is Haad Sungwal. It is a small beach, only around 150 metres long. Without any shops or restaurant in the area, the beach is quieter than Haad Ta Waen and good for sunbathing. For those who prefer basking in the sun in peace, Haad Samae and Haad Ta Yai may serve your purpose. The first beach, which is only 10 minute walk from Haad Tian, is relatively quiet with shops and restaurants dotting the area. Nestling on the northern tip of the island, the latter beach has fewer beach goers and only one beachside restaurant.
